Felix Nmecha claimed there was "a little bit of childhood" in the overhead kick he scored in Borussia Dortmund's win over Paderborn, but he would not say if it was his best-ever goal.

Dortmund maintained their perfect start to the Bundesliga season with a 3-0 success over Paderborn at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, with Nmecha scoring twice.

His goals both came in the final 10 minutes, making the result safe after Fabio Silva had given Dortmund an early lead.

It was only Nmecha's second brace in 124 Bundesliga appearances, having previously scored twice for Wolfsburg at home against Bochum in October 2022. 

It was also his second brace in 118 games in all competitions for BVB, following his two goals away at Copenhagen in the Champions League in October 2025.

The Germany international saved his most impressive goal for last, applying a bicycle kick to Marcel Sabitzer's right-wing cross, which nestled in the bottom-left corner.

Asked by DAZN if it was the best goal of his career, Nmecha said: "You have to decide that!

"But maybe it was a little bit of childhood. It was very nice. Those are the kinds of things you always tried as a kid. And then when it works, you're happy."

This is the first time Dortmund have started a Bundesliga season with three wins since the 2015-16 campaign. 

The club had achieved that feat on only four previous occasions overall, going on to win the league title in two of those instances, in 1994-95 and 2001-02.

And head coach Niko Kovac was particularly pleased with his team's fast start, coming off the back of a 3-2 win over Villarreal in the Champions League four days earlier.

"We got off to a good start with the early goal. That obviously helps, especially after playing in a very hard-fought and difficult Champions League match on Tuesday," he said.

"It wasn't easy for the team because Paderborn also played really well, but we didn't allow them anything. 

"In the second half, the game opened up a bit, partly because the opponent's energy started to wane. We had enough good chances to score more goals. 

"I was pleased with the team's performance over the full 90 minutes. You can't expect to dominate and put the game out of reach in the first half."

Dortmund will look to maintain their perfect start when they visit Stuttgart next Saturday for their final game before the international break, with Freiburg (nine points) and Elversberg (six) the only other teams yet to drop a point.
