In a podcast, Milner discussed the technical qualities of his former teammate Baleba and how he would change Manchester United's midfield.

Speaking about Baleba on the podcast "The Good, The Bad & The Football", Milner said: "He's still very young. Physically, he's excellent. He can drive the ball forward and dominate in certain areas. But he's still young, still developing, and while his physical advantages really stand out, maintaining that over 90 minutes is something he still needs to develop."

"For young players, Brighton is one of the best environments to develop in. At Brighton, the manager loses his best players every year, and then the young players get opportunities. You have to start again from scratch, but they invest heavily in individual meetings with players, position-specific sessions, time after training, one-on-one coaching, video work, and so on – they're very good at developing these players."

"Of course, for Baleba, joining a club like Man Utd is also a step up. The scale of Man Utd is completely different from Brighton – that's not disrespect to Brighton. As you said, Brighton is an excellent club and has achieved amazing things in their development over the past 15 years, it's a fantastic club. But Man Utd is a completely different proposition."

Milner once rejected Man Utd

Milner also revealed that he turned down the opportunity to join Man Utd during his career. Man Utd approached him when he was preparing to leave Manchester City in 2015.

Milner said: "They actually did come to me, yes. That was when I left Manchester City. But I wouldn't even consider it."

Milner was then asked when Man Utd had contacted him at that time.

Milner replied: "It wasn't really a formal contact. I had already decided to go to Liverpool at that point. I couldn't do that. Of course, I respect the club, but I've always been a Leeds fan, and I could never support them."
