Giovanni Van Bronckhorst appears set to end his brief association with Manchester City and ready to take the manager's job at Guangzhou R&F in China.

Sportsmail revealed in September that chiefs at New York City, a sister club of the Premier League champions, had earmarked Van Bronckhorst as a potential future boss.

The Dutchman had worked within the City Football Group all season but opted against succeeding Domenec Torrent at the MLS side.

Van Bronckhorst is thought to be putting the final touches on a move to Guangzhou R&F in the Chinese Super League.

The 44-year-old's close friend, Claudio Reyna, was sporting director at New York before leaving to join MLS expansion team Austin FC in November.

The pair grew so close while playing for Rangers earlier in their careers that one Reyna named one of his children Giovanni. Now 17, he is rising through the ranks at Borussia Dortmund.
