After Bastoni ultimately left Internazionale to join Chelsea, many began to question the operating methods and pace of Internazionale's owner, Oaktree. Paolo Condo shared his thoughts on this in Corriere della Sera:

"Marotta and Ausilio would have been very happy to sign him, especially after Dumfries was forced to leave, and the team needed a decent replacement even more. However, the pace of the Oaktree Foundation is clearly not the pace required for high-level football transfer negotiations. Internazionale should make up for this—considering the results achieved both athletically and economically in recent years—because it makes no sense to expect a 21-year-old player to reject the Premier League. What truly matters is securing him before someone with the appeal of Xabi Alonso contacts him."

"A similar situation happened last year when Giovanni Leone went to Liverpool overnight because Parma's demand of 30 million euros deterred everyone. This is how it is in Italy. But international scouts will not be swayed by the results of the Italian national team. Donnarumma, Bastoni, Calafiori, and Tonali—these four 'English system' players—will form the backbone of the future Italian team."
