According to Agence France-Presse, Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi has appealed the decision ordering him to stand trial over alleged rape allegations.

AFP confirmed with a source close to the case that Hakimi has appealed to France's highest court, the Court of Cassation.

On June 19, the French Court of Appeal ruled that Paris Saint-Germain defender Hakimi must stand trial for allegedly raping a woman in 2023. Hakimi has repeatedly denied the allegations.

Shortly after the Versailles court's ruling, Hakimi posted on social media: "From day one, I have been waiting for this trial."

Hakimi's lawyer declined to comment on Friday regarding news of his appeal to the French Supreme Court.

Hakimi's appeal to the French Supreme Court seeks to overturn the ruling that he must stand trial for rape. This is not an appeal against a guilty verdict, as the trial has not yet begun and no verdict has been rendered.

In essence, Hakimi is seeking to avoid trial altogether, hoping for a re-examination of the case and potentially its dismissal.

In February 2023, a 24-year-old woman filed a rape complaint with police in Val-de-Marne, southeast of Paris, alleging that Hakimi had assaulted her.

According to police sources, the woman stated that she met Hakimi via social media in January 2023 and traveled to his residence in a taxi he had called for her.

The woman alleged that Hakimi kissed her, touched her without consent, and then raped her.

"Every judicial decision made in this case so far has favored my client. She will continue to fight to the end to seek justice," said the woman's lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo.
