According to official news from Eredivisie club FC Twente, the club has reached an agreement with Weghorst on a transfer, and both parties will sign a two-year contract.

Twente has reached an agreement with 33-year-old Weghorst on a transfer. The international, who has made 52 appearances for the Netherlands, will sign a two-year contract with Twente.

Twente's technical director, Erik ten Hag, said: "We are very proud that Weghorst will play for Twente. Who wouldn't be proud to have an international striker with over 50 caps for the Netherlands join your club? This transfer is a rare opportunity for us. He is a very professional player and a role model, proving what you can achieve when you are willing to give everything for football. Normally, a player with such a resume would be out of reach for Twente. He has always shown immense willpower and motivation, and he is full of ambition. As a local boy, Weghorst is very eager to achieve something with Twente. We believe he will play an important role in Twente's future success. Weghorst will bring something extra to us."

Weghorst said: "This transfer is very special to me. I am very proud to wear Twente's jersey starting next season. As a young fan, I celebrated Twente's cup victories at De Kuip in 2001 and 2011. I was also at the Old Market Square when Twente won the league title in 2010, and I sat in the stands of De Grolsch Veste for many unforgettable European nights. Those are unforgettable memories. Many of my football dreams have already come true, but one remains... In this way, everything comes full circle. From next season, I will give my all, this time not as a fan, but as a player to celebrate success with Twente."
