According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is expected to announce the renewal of Christensen's contract for two seasons between Monday and Tuesday local time.

Christensen was originally set to become a free agent. As Mundo Deportivo previously reported, the Danish center-back has reached an agreement to renew for two seasons, though both parties retain the option to cancel the second season of the contract after the first season.

Hans-Flick's trust in Christensen was key to his acceptance of Barcelona's offer. Last season, Christensen suffered a partial tear of his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a training session before Christmas. Before the injury, Flick had played him in 12 matches. Although Christensen received higher offers from Saudi Arabia, the Premier League, and the Bundesliga, he chose to stay at Barcelona.

Christensen, who turned 30 on April 10, joined Barcelona on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2022 and has played four seasons for the Blaugrana, winning three La Liga titles. He feels at home in Catalonia and currently resides in Sitges.

When Christensen was injured, Barcelona's management had already conveyed their intention to renew his contract. This was not only due to his footballing ability but also in gratitude for his consistent willingness to cooperate with the club in registering other players.

Christensen's excellent passing ability and reliable defense also provide Flick with more options. In addition to playing as a center-back, he can also play as a defensive midfielder, a position Xavi Hernández first deployed him in.

Even if the renewal is announced by Tuesday at the latest, Christensen, who is on vacation, will sign his new contract in Joan Laporta's office after Laporta assumes the presidency of Barcelona on Wednesday, July 1.
