According to the Manchester Evening News, Elliott Anderson's move to Manchester City is nearing completion.

Elliott Anderson has moved closer to a £116 million transfer to Manchester City after completing his medical in Kansas. The 23-year-old earned his third England cap in the 2-0 World Cup victory over Panama, then returned to the England camp and successfully passed all necessary checks, clearing the way for him to become a Manchester City player.

However, the final formalities have been postponed. Anderson will rejoin the England squad to prepare for their Round of 16 match against DR Congo on Wednesday. England manager Tuchel has stated during this tournament that players should avoid club matters on match days and the day before matches to maintain focus on national team duties. As a result, Anderson's official announcement is likely to be delayed until later this week, with Manchester City coordinating with Nottingham Forest and the England camp on the timing. With the medical completed and personal terms agreed, only the official announcement remains.

Anderson has been Manchester City's top midfield target this summer after months of tracking. The club aims to fill the void left by Bernardo Silva's departure, while also addressing uncertainty over the futures of other midfielders, with both Rodri and Kovacic entering the final year of their contracts. Manchester City may pursue another midfielder this summer—Tonali and Ayoub Bouaddi are on their radar—but Anderson has remained the priority. Despite Manchester United's interest, Manchester City secured the deal, demonstrating the club's continued appeal to top talent even after Guardiola's departure.

Enzo Maresca will succeed Guardiola as manager, and Anderson will be the first major signing of the new era. Beyond midfield reinforcement, Manchester City is also targeting a right-back and winger this summer.
