According to Sport1, Schalke 04 board chairman Matthias Tillmann stated that the Veltins Arena will remain the long-term home of the newly promoted Bundesliga club.

"We continuously invest in the stadium every year, with maintenance being our top priority. Under the theme of 'Future Arena,' we are carefully considering how to ensure this stadium remains world-class in the long term," Tillmann told newspapers owned by Funke Media Group.

The Veltins Arena opened in August 2001 and has been in use for nearly 25 years. Tillmann said the club invests "millions of euros, but less than ten million euros" in the stadium annually on average. This year, the stadium will upgrade its VIP reception area.

"Additionally, we are planning to install a digital advertising board between the upper and lower tiers of the opposite stand," said the 42-year-old Tillmann. "We must consider what new needs fans will have over the next 5 to 15 years. This is a major challenge, but also very exciting."

Schalke's former management, led by Rudi Assauer, showed similar foresight when building this stadium. It served as a World Cup venue in 2006 and will host matches during Euro 2024.
