According to TuttoMercato, Algeria's national team faces a goalkeeper crisis ahead of the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match against Switzerland, with head coach Petković reportedly considering starting third-choice goalkeeper Mastil.

Luca Zidane has performed inconsistently in the first two matches, while substitute Oussama Benbout has fared even worse. Zidane started against Argentina and Jordan but was criticized for several errors, prompting Petković to drop him after the 3-3 draw with Austria. Petković said: "Luca Zidane's absence relates to his performance in the first two matches. I believe Benbout deserves a chance. Competition for all positions continues, and selection depends on the opponent and the match's demands." However, Benbout failed to ease concerns in the Austria match, further exposing Algeria's goalkeeping vulnerability before the knockout stage.

As a result, Mastil's chances of starting are increasing. The 26-year-old goalkeeper was born in Thonon-les-Bains, France, but developed his career in Switzerland and currently plays for Swiss Challenge League side Stade Nyonnais. He received his first call-up for Algeria last March and has made only two appearances for the national team, both in friendly matches against Guatemala and Bolivia. Starting this crucial match would be a significant risk, but his familiarity with Swiss football could prove advantageous.
