Shenyang Evening News reported that a fan in Shenyang, Liaoning, won 7,500 yuan by correctly predicting a FIFA World Cup match score, but frantically searched through trash cans overnight after accidentally discarding his winning ticket.

Mr. Zhai, the person involved, told reporters that he bet on Algeria 3-3 Austria and successfully won a prize of 7,500 yuan. When he went to claim the prize, he realized he had brought the wrong ticket—the winning ticket had already been discarded as trash, causing his blood pressure to spike.

Mr. Zhai quickly returned to search through the trash cans, endured the unpleasant smell, and finally found the lottery ticket buried in leftover food. He successfully claimed his prize. Mr. Zhai said he plans to continue placing bets during the upcoming knockout rounds.
