Internazionale Official Announcement

When we talk about Yann Sommer's time at Internazionale in the future, his match against Barcelona will undoubtedly be the first wonderful moment we recall. It's easy to close our eyes and relive that breathless moment at San Siro, witnessing Lamine Yamal's curling left-footed shot in the second half of extra time. It's easy to remember Yann Sommer stretching with all his might, diving like a superhero to clear the corner, and the Meazza stadium erupting as if a goal had been scored. It was a magical moment, and the perfect culmination of his consistent performance. For a goalkeeper, stability is crucial, because he knows that the responsibility on his shoulders far exceeds that of anyone else.

Yann embraced this responsibility with the composure always evident on his face, and he conveyed this spirit to his defense, his team, and the entire stadium. For three years, he guarded the Nerazzurri's goal. For three seasons, his gloves were the cornerstone of Internazionale's victories, and his footwork was at the heart of the Nerazzurri's offensive organization. He conquered us with his agile reactions, his fluid and instinctive leaps, and his always neat long hair was never disheveled by it.

His control over the game state was integrated into his personality, evident in the precision of his ball control and the way he directed the defense: his impact on Internazionale was immediate and astonishing, including 12 clean sheets in the first 17 Serie A matches. He left a deep mark on Milan with a series of crucial saves, from coming on in a difficult situation away against Napoli, to a spectacular save against Retegui at home against Genoa, to multiple critical interventions against Roma, from saving Nico Gonzalez's penalty in Florence, to the second leg of the Milan derby: it was a historic night, where Yann won his first Serie A title and felt the boundless love of the Nerazzurri fans.

This love was ever-present, culminating in the match against Barcelona: San Siro seemed to be under his control, and Internazionale fans went wild for his legendary, historic performance. The Swiss goalkeeper delivered an incredible performance, with a series of spectacular, championship-level saves. The first save was astonishing, from Eric Garcia's shot: Barcelona fans were already celebrating, and at that very moment, he made a miraculous save. Then, countless spectacular saves followed, until that astounding save in the ninth minute of the second half of extra time. Yamal's left-footed shot seemed unstoppable, impossible to save. However, he made that save, one that will go down in history, repeatedly turning the tide and ultimately securing the victory.

Perhaps this is one of Sommer's finest qualities: his ability to find a balance between the ordinary and the extraordinary, while maintaining stability, composure, and strong willpower. Last season, the double-winning season, he once again demonstrated this ability: 15 clean sheets in 33 league appearances, bringing a perfect end to his three-year career with the Nerazzurri in a memorable way. During these three years, he helped the team win two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, and one Supercoppa Italiana. Sommer made a total of 139 appearances for Internazionale, keeping 66 clean sheets, leaving an indelible mark on Internazionale's history.

Thank you, Yann, it was wonderful winning together!
