On June 30, according to official FIFA news, Uzbek striker Eldor Shomurodov's spectacular chip shot against the Democratic Republic of Congo was named the best goal of the FIFA World Cup group stage in the "Best Goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup" series.

Although Uzbekistan exited early in their first FIFA World Cup campaign, the team still produced several brilliant moments. As captain, Shomurodov scored an incredibly imaginative chip from outside the penalty area at a very narrow angle in the final group stage match against DR Congo, stunning the audience.
The goal received 36% of the votes in the first round, beating goals from Haitian player Isidore (26.5%) and Bosnian player Alajbegovic (24.9%), and was named the best goal of the group stage.
This "Best Goal" selection will be conducted in stages, with the group stage serving only as the first round of voting. Subsequent voting will continue through the Round of 32, Round of 16, Quarter-finals, and Semi-finals, with the best goal of the FIFA World Cup determined after the tournament concludes.
