July 1st: In the FIFA World Cup Round of 16, Ecuador lost 0-2 to host Mexico and was eliminated from the tournament. Following the match, Ecuador coach Gustavo Beccacece confirmed that his contract with the federation was expiring and that he would be stepping down.

Beccacece said: "My contract expires at the end of the FIFA World Cup, and now our World Cup campaign is over. I had hoped we could continue and achieve our objectives, but the outcome has been decided. Today I must say goodbye to this wonderful family with deep gratitude. We gave everything we had."

Beccacece took charge of Ecuador on August 1, 2024. During his tenure, he led the team in 24 matches, compiling a record of 9 wins, 12 draws, and 3 losses, with 22 goals scored and 11 conceded. Ecuador qualified for the FIFA World Cup by finishing second in the South American qualifiers.
