According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid are accelerating their pursuit of 27-year-old Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand. The player has reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid on a contract, and now it only remains for Atletico Madrid and Sporting CP to agree on the transfer fee.

Hjulmand currently plays for Sporting CP. Atletico Madrid tried to sign him last winter, but the Portuguese side did not release him at the time. According to previous reports from several Portuguese media outlets, his agreement with Atletico Madrid would see his salary increase from an annual €2 million to €6 million, with the contract running until 2031.

Now, Atletico Madrid and Sporting CP only need to reach an agreement. Hjulmand's contract with Sporting CP runs until 2028 and includes a release clause of €80 million, though he could also leave for around €40 million.

In recent days, Sporting CP have been preparing for the Danish player's departure. The club first secured his replacement, with Spanish midfielder Sergi Altimira set to join from Real Betis for €18.5 million. Hjulmand was then given a few extra days off to decide his future before the team began pre-season training today.

This transfer could be finalized in the coming hours. Atletico Madrid officially announced Grimaldo yesterday and are now pushing forward with the signings of Lee Kang-in, N. Gonzalez, and Hjulmand.
