After Uruguay's exit from the FIFA World Cup group stage, Bielsa, who decided to resign, slammed his players at the farewell press conference.

Bielsa said: "It's shameful that professional players earning millions can't even concentrate for more than 10 minutes. My speeches and videos to the team never exceeded 10 minutes."
Bielsa continued: "This is because they told me that the content had to be shorter and spread out over different days, so as not to overwhelm the players' attention. I talked to the players, and they said they were receiving too much information. So I shortened everything, but before the match against Spain, they told me again that there was still too much information. Why do I say I won't leave Uruguay with anything? Because I'm convinced that in these three years, no one really cared what I said. There's nothing wrong with that, but I know that's the truth."
