Declan Rice was seen taking precautions after being substituted against DR Congo as he continues to manage a hamstring issue.

Rice was taken off in injury time having played a big role in England's turnaround in their World Cup last-32 match, with Thomas Tuchel's side winning 2-1 after two late Harry Kane goals.

However, shortly after Rice sat down on the bench, he was seen applying an ice pack to his left hamstring under the close supervision of medical staff.

The midfielder appeared to be grimacing as he did so, with the issue having hampered the England and Arsenal star since Christmas.

It follows a gruelling campaign for Rice which has seen him play 55 times for Arsenal, and also win 10 caps for the Three Lions.

Speaking earlier this week Rice opened up on the neural hamstring complaint and explained the peculiar nature of the issue.

'You could be sat at home and you'd feel a little pain shoot up your leg,' he revealed. 'It's just something that is obviously a bit unusual for me because I've never had anything (like that) before.

'It's strange because you can just feel it like sitting there. It's something I've just managed. I've tried to get my rest when I can and last season I was just prioritising games.'

The issue led to Tuchel resting him from England's final group stage clash against Panama, a decision that was also motivated by Rice being at risk of suspension.

It similarly came after he was seen with heavy strapping on his left calf after the draw with Ghana last week, and Rice was also replaced after 72 minutes in England's opening match against Croatia.

Ahead of the DR Congo clash, Rice insisted the calf problem had cleared up, yet if Tuchel's side are to go far at the tournament, the 27-year-old's fitness will be crucial.
