In the FIFA World Cup Round of 32, Belgium came back from two goals down to defeat Senegal, advancing to the quarterfinals!

This is Belgium's second two-goal comeback in FIFA World Cup history. In the 2018 FIFA World Cup Round of 16, Belgium trailed Japan 0-2 but completed a 3-2 comeback within 90 minutes to advance.

In the 1954 FIFA World Cup group stage, Belgium trailed England 3-1 but equalized to 3-3. In extra time (the tournament rules allowed group stage matches tied after regular time to proceed to extra time, with a draw recorded only if the score remained tied after extra time), both teams scored again, ending 4-4.

Belgium has now achieved two two-goal comebacks in FIFA World Cup history, equaling West Germany's record. Germany completed two-goal comebacks against Hungary in the 1954 FIFA World Cup final and against England in the 1970 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals (after extra time). In the 1982 FIFA World Cup semifinals, West Germany trailed France 3-1 in extra time, equalized to 3-3, and ultimately advanced via penalty shootout.
