Tonali is set to join Tottenham Hotspur, and Merson believes he's the genuine article. De Zerbi's recent transfer business has been impressive.

Paul Merson commented on Tottenham's signing of Tonali on Sky Sports:

"Signing Tonali is an excellent move. He's one of my favorite players in the Premier League—a genuine, high-quality midfielder.

Every time I watch Tottenham play, their midfield gets overrun and they struggle to control the game's tempo.

When fit, their center-backs and forwards are solid, but the midfield lacks dominance. New manager Roberto De Zerbi identified this issue straight away and has now brought in two outstanding midfielders.

I'm optimistic they'll perform well next season. That said, Aston Villa's heavy defeat of Tottenham at the end of last season could come back to haunt them. That loss nearly dragged Spurs into a relegation battle, and when fighting for a Champions League spot and fourth or fifth place, those dropped points may prove costly.

But I have to say, De Zerbi's transfer dealings have been very impressive."
