Official news: 74-year-old coach Louis van Gaal has resigned from his position as advisor to Ajax.

Official Ajax announcement:

Louis van Gaal has resigned from his position as advisor to the Supervisory Board of Ajax N.V. He has informed the Supervisory Board of this decision. Van Gaal has been advising the Supervisory Board on football-related matters since October 2023.

Louis van Gaal (born in Amsterdam, August 8, 1951) is a former professional football player and one of the most successful football coaches in history, having won over twenty national and international titles. He previously served as Technical Director for Ajax. Since October 2023, he has served as an external advisor to the club's Supervisory Board.

Van Gaal stated: "Michael van Praag is a friend of mine, and we worked well together at Ajax in the past. When he became Chairman of the Supervisory Board, he contacted me in 2023, and I was happy to help him and Ajax. At that time, the club had a lot of changes in key positions and lacked football expertise. As an external advisor, I was able to participate in the arrangement of some important football positions, such as the appointments of Alex Kroes and Marijn Beuker. During that period, the club also introduced more football expertise. But Michael will step down in 2025, Alex has left, and Marijn has also departed. For me, it is now also time to resign from this position."

The Ajax Supervisory Board regrets Van Gaal's resignation but understands his decision and thanks him for his advice.
