According to football-italia, anticipation is growing within the Italian Football Federation for the appointment of Paolo Maldini as technical director of the Italian national team, but the Milan legend has not yet made a final decision.

Newly elected FIGC president Gabriele Gravina convened the first Federal Council meeting on Wednesday, and one of the most pressing items on the agenda was to finalize the new technical director and head coach for the Italian national team.
Sources indicate that Gravina hopes to first determine the technical director before finalizing the head coach. Conte and Mancini are currently the hot favorites to return as head coach (CT) of the national team, while Maldini is the top candidate for the technical director position.
Gravina recently stated that the relevant appointments would be confirmed "within a week."
According to the latest news on Thursday, signals from Maldini's team have become increasingly positive as time progresses. Although the former Milan captain and director has not yet made up his mind, Italian media outlet TMW notes that "optimism is continuously rising."
Gravina expects to receive a clear answer from Maldini within the next few days.
If Maldini ultimately declines to serve as the technical director of the Italian national team, the Italian Football Federation may adjust its plan, creating two positions: one as President of Club Italia, and the other focusing more on the role of sporting director.
