Georgia Stanway has outlined her ambition to "create big things" after securing a return to the Women's Super League with Arsenal on Friday.

Stanway, who previously played for Manchester City before joining Bayern Munich in 2022, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Gunners.

The 27-year-old arrives in North London after a successful four-year stint in Germany, where she won eight major titles, including four consecutive Frauen-Bundesliga crowns.

During her time at Bayern, she made 79 league appearances, scoring 24 goals as well as providing 19 assists from central midfield.

After completing her move to the Emirates Stadium, Stanway is excited about what the future holds for Arsenal following recent successes both domestically and in Europe.

"It feels really surreal actually," Stanway told Arsenal's website. "It's been a long time in the works, so it's weird to be here and actually happening and seeing my shirt for the first time. It's an unbelievable feeling, I'm so proud.

"Straight away I feel the family feeling. Everybody that I've met today is so warm and so welcoming, and I feel like that is the club culture and making sure that everybody's comfortable and has the opportunity to be free and to play free, and that's exactly what you see on the pitch.

"I'm excited to get going. I want to create big things with this club, and I'm excited to see what the future holds."

Stanway joins an Arsenal side that finished second in the WSL last season, just four points behind the champions, her former club Man City.

The Gunners won the Champions League in 2024-25 under Renee Slegers, but they lost in last season's semi-finals to eventual runners-up Lyon.

Slegers believes that Stanway is the perfect addition to Arsenal's squad, saying: "Georgia is a brilliant midfielder and we're thrilled that she is an Arsenal player.

"She will add a new dimension to our midfield, bringing experience and adding to our winning mentality.

"We look forward to getting down to work in pre-season ahead of a big campaign ahead."

Stanway made 102 WSL appearances for Man City, registering 50 goal contributions (38 goals, 12 assists), while also winning seven trophies with the club.

The England international is Arsenal's first signing of the summer, though reports have suggested they are interested in Salma Paralluelo, who left Barcelona earlier this week.
