According to German newspaper Bild, Japanese international Sano Kaishu continues to attract interest from top European clubs thanks to his excellent performances at the 2026 World Cup. Amid strong interest from Premier League teams, Mainz 05 sporting director Niko Bungert stated that the club is in no hurry to sell the player and will only seriously consider offers that meet his market value.

In the World Cup match in which Japan lost 1-2 to Brazil, Mainz 05's Sano Kaishu delivered an impressive performance, once again becoming a target for several top European clubs.

When discussing the transfer rumors, Bungert said: "It's completely normal for a player who has played two consecutive seasons in the Bundesliga and performed so well at the World Cup, perhaps even becoming one of the best players in his position, to attract attention. There's no doubt that he has suitors, and as we all know, England has always been the most common destination for top players."

However, he also emphasized that Mainz 05 are currently under no pressure to sell the player.

"Our biggest advantage is that the player still has a long-term contract, so we are under no pressure whatsoever and will not actively rush any process. If a club comes in with an offer, we will of course evaluate it; but if the offer does not meet our expectations for the player's market value, then it is entirely possible that Sano Kaishu will continue to stay at Mainz 05. As of now, everything remains open. Of course, we know we have a player who is attracting widespread attention."
