Barcelona may unilaterally terminate Christensen's contract after the first season.

Barcelona announced a two-year contract extension with Christensen this week. This was a special extension, at the request of President Laporta. After the Danish defender was injured and ruled out for the rest of the season, and with his contract expiring in June, Laporta did not want to leave him without support and proactively offered a renewal. However, this renewal reduced his salary, with Christensen's fixed salary dropping to half of the previous season's. In addition, the contract includes a series of variable clauses, which, if met, could bring his total earnings close to his initial years at Barcelona.

Christensen signed for two years, but the contract contains a clause allowing Barcelona to unilaterally terminate the second season. Everything depends on his appearances. The clause stipulates that if Christensen fails to appear in 30% of Barcelona's total matches for the entire season, the club can unilaterally terminate the contract. Of course, Barcelona would have to pay the player a small compensation fee.

Everything depends on Christensen's fitness. He has suffered several injuries in the past two years, but if he can stay healthy, reaching this number of appearances should not be a problem. He is a talented player who can play in multiple positions and is trusted by the coach. The Dane did not participate in the World Cup, so he can complete a full pre-season preparation starting July 13, the day players are called to begin training.
