Mertesacker and Kramer believe Nagelsmann's resignation as Germany coach was inevitable. The two 2014 FIFA World Cup winners also believe there is no alternative to coaching candidate Klopp.

"Everyone quickly and correctly made the decision to clear the way for Klopp," Mertesacker said while working as a ZDF commentator. "I think the German Football Association clearly understood that the only option was Klopp. No matter who replaces him, Klopp's shadow will loom over him. I believe he can ignite something."

Kramer shared a similar view. "There was no other option but for Nagelsmann to step aside. If he returned a few months later, it would not be a fresh start because the situation would already be burdened," said the former Mönchengladbach player. "It would be bad for everyone if Klopp were not appointed. As Germany's coach, few people are more suitable than him."
