In the FIFA World Cup knockout stage match that concluded on July 3rd,(CEST), Austria lost 0-3 to Spain, bringing their campaign to an end in the round of 32. After the match, Austrian international Baumgartner was interviewed. Before the start of this FIFA World Cup, he was unable to make the final roster due to injury, but still chose to travel with the team and experience the entire tournament alongside them.

When discussing the defeat, Baumgartner was visibly emotional, his voice choking and his eyes reddened: "We conceded too early, which made the game very difficult. We tried to come back after that, but we couldn't. In fact, we showed what we are capable of, but football isn't always on your side. For me, being able to participate in this FIFA World Cup in this way was very important."

He also reflected on his experience during his injury: "I suppressed a lot of emotions during this period, and there were many feelings that were difficult to express. It's a shame I withdrew before this FIFA World Cup and couldn't help our team; I regret that. Although my personal experience wasn't perfect, overall, it was still an unforgettable journey."

Looking to the future, his tone gradually grew firm: "We will definitely be back, and we will be stronger. The Euros are in two years, and the FIFA World Cup is in four years. By then, we will challenge for the knockout stage again and strive to win more matches."
