In this tournament, Cape Verde, making their World Cup debut, have performed exceptionally well. In their opening group-stage match, they held pre-tournament favorites and strong contenders Spain to a 0-0 draw, producing one of the tournament’s major upsets. Then, in their second match, they drew 2-2 with Uruguay, not only extending their unbeaten run but also scoring the first and second World Cup goals in their history.

In the final round of the group stage, Cape Verde once again demonstrated their tenacious defensive ability, drawing 0-0 with Saudi Arabia. After three group matches, they remained unbeaten with three draws, ultimately accumulating 3 points to finish second in the group and successfully advance to the Round of 32 knockout stage.

With this achievement, Cape Verde not only secured a place in the knockout stage on their World Cup debut but also emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest surprises.
