Neville believes that the fact England has used five different players at right-back in four matches shows Tuchel's muddled thinking regarding player selection.

"I watched an Arsenal vs West Ham match a few months ago, and Arteta had Rice playing at right-back. I thought it was the wrong decision then, but in the second half against Congo, I was desperately hoping Tuchel would move Rice to that position," Neville said on ITV.
"I said before the game that we have four defenders in our squad, but they haven't yet formed a cohesive backline. Individually, their one-on-one defensive ability is not bad, but their overall coordinated defense is completely undeveloped, and the gaps exposed in the defense are very concerning.
This is not the first time this has happened. I have personally experienced three or four major tournaments where the right-back position has always been underestimated. Someone always thinks, 'Can we just take five forwards and not bring a dedicated left-back?' In the 2006 FIFA World Cup, I was injured in the first match against Paraguay, then Carragher temporarily filled in at right-back, and finally Beckham was also forced to play in that position. History always repeats itself in a surprisingly similar way. Everyone always thinks that the right-back position can be handled by just finding anyone to fill in. But now this weakness is dragging the team down in games, exposing huge problems in both attack and defense. Today, Rice temporarily filling in at right-back also shows that he can make overlapping runs and combine with teammates on the wing to advance.
We knew before the game that both starting right-backs were very prone to injury. After Livramento's injury, Tuchel called up Chalobah – he should have brought in a specialist right-back instead. We have changed five players at right-back in four games, which is enough to show that Tuchel's thinking on this position is a mess and will sooner or later lead to the team suffering the consequences."
