On July 3rd, in an interview with FIFA, young French forward Doue admitted that he is currently enjoying one of the most dreamlike periods of his career. While competing with his friend Barcola for a starting position, he confessed that this healthy competition is making both of them better.

On the eve of France's FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match against Paraguay, the 21-year-old expressed his excitement at participating in his first FIFA World Cup.

"Honestly, I'm really enjoying my first FIFA World Cup experience," Doue said. "Every player who gets the chance to play in the FIFA World Cup feels pure joy. That's why you see so much disappointment and regret when the team is eliminated."

"This is a truly magical tournament. I always smile when I sing the national anthem because being here is a great happiness for me."

Doue, who came through the Rennes youth academy, has made tremendous progress in the past 18 months. Since joining Paris Saint-Germain, he has quickly adapted to the top level and made his FIFA World Cup debut for the national team.

Although the current French attacking trio of Dembele, Mbappe, and Olise is almost unshakable, the fourth forward position rotates between Doue and Barcola, and both have had opportunities to play.

While it was once thought that Doue would gain the upper hand in the competition, he himself is very calm about the rotation arrangement.

"We are a team," Doue said. "This is the FIFA World Cup, a unique competition. The starting lineup is decided by the coach, but everyone has a role to play. Whether it's Barcola or me, we will be ready when we play."

It is worth mentioning that both have contributed to the attack, having combined to score multiple goals for France. Doue scored against Norway, while Barcola scored against Senegal and Sweden, showcasing the diversity of France's attack.

From a tactical and technical perspective, France coach Deschamps is also making full use of their different styles. Doue is better at organizing and handling the ball in the middle and in tight spaces, while Barcola excels at speed and depth. The two can rotate or play together.

At Paris Saint-Germain, they often coexist in the same system; however, in the French national team, they have not started together many times.

Barcola also stated in an interview: "There is no real competition between us. We have a good relationship and help each other both on and off the field. He gives me advice when I play, and I support him when he plays."

Doue agreed: "We each have different characteristics, and our competition is definitely healthy and helps us improve each other. I can play multiple positions, including midfield, upfront, on the wing, and even as a center forward, while Barcola is more of a winger. He is very fast and good at exploiting space. We are different types of players, but we complement each other very well."

As for who will start against Paraguay, Deschamps has not revealed the answer. But one thing is certain: no matter who he chooses, France has two attacking options that can change the game.

And for Doue, as long as the team keeps winning, this "cloud-like" FIFA World Cup experience will continue.
