According to Argentine TV channel DSports, River Plate has made significant progress in negotiations to sign Argentine international Thiago Almada and has reached a verbal agreement with Atlético Madrid regarding the transfer. The deal is expected to be worth around $20 million USD (approximately 103 million Brazilian Reals) and, if completed, would set a club record transfer fee for River Plate.

Previously, Brazilian media outlet Bolavip Brasil reported that Almada remained a transfer target for Flamengo, with Atlético Madrid willing to negotiate his departure. However, as River Plate accelerates negotiations, the likelihood of Flamengo securing the midfielder has diminished.

Almada, 25, is contracted to Atlético Madrid until mid-2030. The player has consistently expressed his preference to continue his career in European football and plans to decide his future after the Copa América.

Almada has struggled to establish himself at Atlético Madrid, and the club is open to offers. Reports suggest that without an attractive proposal from a top European club, he is likely to join River Plate.

While Almada has not officially agreed to the transfer, DSports reports that the deal is very close to completion.
