Following Germany's early exit from the FIFA World Cup, former international Marcell Jansen sharply criticized German youth development.

"The intensity—Klopp says this too—is too low at youth level. There are too few duels, so the game formats need to be adjusted. We need to be more like street football, with more aggressive duels," Jansen said on the FIROCKX.ONE FIFA World Cup "Doppelpass" program on Sunday.
Jansen was particularly critical of the youth academies: "They have been developing players according to a template for too long. Players are good in technical and tactical training. But it can also be seen in the Bundesliga: defensive performances have become quite poor. We were not at this level before."
The former Hamburg chairman, who finished third at the FIFA World Cup with the German national team in 2010, stated: "Competitive performance must also be permitted. Children and teenagers also need more challenging characters because they have to learn to deal with emotions and want to win. This inherently includes ambition; people must desire success. Demanding and guiding this is key."
Jansen sees Germany's premature exit from the FIFA World Cup as a bad example.
"This has to start from the top. As the German team, even in the FIFA World Cup group stage, we can press high and show that we want to get into the game quickly through intensity. Klopp can certainly help with that," Jansen said.
