In the FIFA World Cup Round of 16, England defeated Mexico 3-2 to advance to the quarterfinals. After the match, England coach Thomas Tuchel attended the press conference and answered reporters’ questions.

You've obviously known Kane for a long time. Compared to his time at Bayern, how do you think he has evolved further and led your team to victory? Also, he has just received praise from Donald Trump. What are your thoughts on that? How did you view his performance today?
"First of all, he deserves it all. Harry is a unique player and a person with a unique personality. Looking back on my time at Bayern, I'm glad I resisted some dissenting opinions and insisted on bringing Harry to Bayern. I'm happy for him because it was the right step toward a winning culture, toward an environment with extremely high demands on you."
"Under Kompany, they implemented a very high-intensity style of play, which greatly helped Harry maintain his optimal physical condition, and he is certainly in that state. He won the championship trophy he deserved at Bayern. He was a key player in Bayern's championship, and I think that lifted a heavy burden from his shoulders. He is currently in the best form of his career, and it's truly wonderful to see him be so selfless and such a magnificent team player in the England squad."
Thomas, Ryan Taylor from the Daily Mirror. I'm sure you already know that Balogun's red card was overturned and rescinded (suspended). You just mentioned that Quansah didn't think the VAR intervention warranted a red card.
"Where does this kind of thing even begin and end? Can we appeal to overturn it now, or can’t we? Yes, where is the bottom line? I don’t have the answer. To what extent will this situation develop? If a yellow card was wrong, should we appeal that too? We feel a red card was wrong, or who feels it was wrong? Where does this start and end? That’s my question, and I don’t have the answer."
Perhaps Kane could ask Donald Trump?
"Maybe that's a good starting point."
Hello, I'm Toby Davis from Reuters. Could you elaborate a little on this issue? What are your thoughts on FIFA's decision to overturn and cancel Balogun's red card?
"I think, first and foremost, it should be very clear that it was not a red card to begin with. But VAR intervened and, obviously, after repeated checks by the three video assistant referees and the main referee, they unanimously decided it was a red card. Since the decision has been made, who will overturn it now? When will it be overturned? On what grounds will it be overturned? To what extent will this practice develop? So, it is really strange to me. We actually just want the refereeing standards to be consistent."
"For example, the yellow card Declan Rice received in the first minute—we can endlessly debate that now, and I don't think it was a yellow card. So, can we apply for it to be rescinded? Can Olise's yellow card for France be rescinded? Where does this all end? Where do we draw the line? I really don't understand these rules, and I'm the last person who should be asked this question. I'll wait and see what happens next."
Thomas, hi. I'm James Olley from ESPN. Congratulations on the promotion. When you announced the squad at Wembley Stadium, you said it was a team that could cope with almost any situation. But at the Estadio Azteca, in a knockout match, leading by two goals but playing with ten men, did you really anticipate such an extreme situation?
"The tactical plan completely failed. I have to be honest with you: I absolutely did not see this coming. Ezri Konsa ended up playing as a wing-back, Antony Gordon and Morgan Rogers played as double number 8s, and Jude (Bellingham) ended up playing as a number 9."
"No, but I do feel that we have built a true, flesh-and-blood team here. A team that is truly and deeply passionate about national honor. When you turn around and ask a player to complete an unusual task, or simply fulfill a specific role in the game, I can immediately see that the player understands."
"Because they are fully invested, they immediately understand what to do, how to help the team, and they are always ready to go. This is a very beautiful and extremely rare thing, and we did not treat this team spirit as a dispensable gamble today. This is what you are seeing now."
Hi, I'm Pierre from L'Équipe. How would you rate Jordan Pickford's performance? He received some criticism early in this FIFA World Cup. Also, did you ask him to kick the ball long more often? The first goal came from Jordan's long pass. Thank you.
"Yes. To a certain extent, we wanted to break the opponent's high press, and if we felt that playing out from the back wasn't stable, we would choose a long ball. In training yesterday, we noticed that at high altitude, Jordan's kicks went even further than usual. So we thought this would be a good way to get the ball directly into the opponent's half and avoid being trapped in our own half."
"You could feel that we lacked confidence at the beginning of the game and couldn't find the rhythm to break the high press with our passing. So we adopted the long-ball tactic, and it worked well. Overall, Jordan performed very, very well, especially in the final stages. He was very brave, coming out decisively to claim aerial balls; he effectively saved all the dangerous shots he should have and didn't give the opponent any rebound opportunities. Well done, I'm very happy for him."
We've talked a lot about altitude before, but can you specifically describe how much pressure your players were under tonight? Especially playing with 10 men, to what extent did they push their mental limits?
"At any time, even at sea level, playing with a man down for 40 to 50 minutes is almost an impossible task. But we did it at high altitude. We thought the first 20 minutes would be the toughest, and we realized this and told the whole team to give it their all in the second and third 15-minute periods of the game. But then that red card changed everything."
"You have to ask the players. They are, of course, exhausted to a new limit, but this is precisely a beautiful and moving story. Because I think it is this kind of effort that connects the players and the fans so closely. The fans can see that when the final whistle blows, the players are even too tired to celebrate. Yes. It's truly wonderful to see players of this level and stature give their all for victory, for their country, and for this jersey. Everyone, please remember this clearly: this is a very special group."
I'm Carlos from TV Azteca. The last time England played at this Estadio Azteca was 40 years ago against Argentina, and you must remember Maradona's "Hand of God" and so on. Now, England has a good chance of meeting Argentina in the semifinals. What are your thoughts on this? Do you want to play against Messi and Argentina?
"How do you think I'm going to answer you now? If we've only just reached the quarterfinals, I absolutely won't talk about the semifinals. Now we have a chance to take a few days off, and I'll tell you one thing: in the next 24 hours, I absolutely will not rewatch tonight's match footage, and I definitely won't look at anything about Norway. I will completely stay away from football for a whole day, then start thinking about Norway and looking forward. We have to take it one step at a time; there's no other way."
"I admit, we have a very sad history with this stadium (1986 FIFA World Cup). But today, we have reconciled with it. I just heard from your colleague about Mexico's historical FIFA World Cup record in this stadium. We know what it takes to beat Mexico in the FIFA World Cup, and we also know what it takes to score three goals against a team that had not conceded a goal until tonight. We will not think about the semifinals now, thank you."
