Former referee Manuel Gräfe has been shocked by developments concerning the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The suspended sentence for US striker Balogun also prompted Gräfe to post an angry message on social media.

"UEFA or FIFA engaging in politics has always existed and will always exist, but to trample so brazenly on the basic principles of fairness and objectivity at the FIFA World Cup, in front of the whole world, is a scandal," the 52-year-old former referee said angrily.
