According to The Athletic, Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana will be sidelined for an extended period after tearing his ACL during Belgium's FIFA World Cup match.

On Monday, local time, Amadou Onana suffered an ACL tear during Belgium's FIFA World Cup match against the United States.

The 24-year-old Onana was forced off in the 21st minute of Belgium's Round of 16 victory and was later seen on crutches with a brace on his right knee.

After scoring his team's fourth goal in second-half stoppage time to help secure a 4-1 victory, Belgium forward Lukaku celebrated by holding up Onana's No. 24 jersey.

This injury is a major blow to Aston Villa, as Unai Emery had hoped to build the team around a midfield trio of Onana, Kamara, and Tielemans.

Villa had not planned to sign any players in this position, but they will now have to reassess the situation.
