According to Sport, Real Madrid is looking for a future core player in midfield, targeting Croatian player Sučić.

Sučić joined Internazionale from Dinamo Zagreb last summer for approximately 14 million euros and quickly established himself. Although his best position is defensive midfielder, Sučić has performed exceptionally well as a central midfielder in Internazionale's 3-5-2 system, demonstrating outstanding tactical awareness, ball-carrying ability, physical prowess, and proficiency with both feet. He has become an increasingly sought-after player in European football.

The World Cup validated his emergence.

Real Madrid's interest in Sučić is not only due to his excellent performance in Italy. The 2026 World Cup further propelled him into the ranks of the most promising midfielders in international football.

Although Croatia was eliminated by Portugal in the round of 16, the Internazionale player's performance in the tournament was still very impressive. With Modrić gradually stepping back from a central role, Sučić took over the responsibility for creating attacks for the team and delivered a highly convincing performance.

He provided a brilliant assist against England and scored one of the most spectacular goals of the tournament against Ghana with a powerful shot from nearly 25 meters. After their elimination, Cristiano Ronaldo even went up to congratulate and console the Croatian midfielder, a scene that demonstrates he has already earned the respect of top football stars worldwide.

This deal is reminiscent of Kovačić.

However, this transfer will not be easy. Internazionale is well aware of their player's potential and will not easily let him go for a low price. Italian sources estimate his value has risen to 50-60 million euros, four times the investment made just over a year ago. Several Premier League clubs are also interested in him.

This potential deal also bears a striking resemblance to a past operation by Real Madrid. In 2015, Real Madrid signed another young Croatian midfielder who started his career at Dinamo Zagreb and then joined Internazionale: Mateo Kovačić.

Eleven years later, history seems to be repeating itself. Another Balkan talent, who grew up in the same youth system and established himself at Internazionale, has come into the sights of the Valdebebas training ground, becoming the top candidate to succeed Modrić. The relevant operations have already begun.
