On July 7, Argentina will play Egypt in the FIFA World Cup round of 16 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Messi has scored against Algeria, Austria, Jordan, and Cape Verde, scoring in all four of Argentina's FIFA World Cup matches so far. If he scores against Egypt again, Messi will become the sixth player in history to score in the first five matches of a single FIFA World Cup.

The previous five players were Just Fontaine of France (1958 FIFA World Cup), Jairzinho of Brazil (1970 FIFA World Cup), Gerd Müller of Germany (1970 FIFA World Cup), Rivaldo of Brazil (2002 FIFA World Cup), and James of Colombia (2014 FIFA World Cup).
