According to statistics, this is Egypt's 4th appearance in the FIFA World Cup, having never reached the quarterfinals before. They were defeated 2-4 by Hungary in the 1934 FIFA World Cup Round of 16.

If they pull off an upset and eliminate Argentina, Egypt will reach the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals for the first time, becoming the 5th African team to advance to the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals. The previous four teams were Cameroon (1990 FIFA World Cup), Senegal (2002 FIFA World Cup), Ghana (2010 FIFA World Cup), and Morocco (2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cup).
