DFB: Preliminary agreement reached with Klopp over head coach role, talks still ongoing with Red Bull Group

Official: Preliminary agreement struck with Klopp for Germany head coach position

The German Football Association (DFB) issued the following statement regarding its talks with Jürgen Klopp:

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and DFB Vice President Hans-Joachim Watzke held their first in-depth meeting with Jürgen Klopp in New York yesterday to discuss the possibility of him taking over as head coach (Bundestrainer) of the German national team. During this constructive discussion, the two sides reached consensus on the core points of a potential contract.

Negotiations will continue next week. Both parties expressed optimism that a final deal can be signed on the condition that an agreement is reached with Klopp’s current employer Red Bull Group. Any prospective contract must ultimately be formally approved at a joint meeting by the supervisory board and general meeting of DFB GmbH und Co. KG.
