PSG have informed Aston Villa that they would pay Lucas Digne’s (32) release clause to sign the France international left-back, according to Fabrizio Romano. Digne is therefore set for a return to the French capital after spending two seasons with the Ligue 1 side between 2013 and 2015. Digne was under contract with Aston Villa until 2028, and his release clause is set at around the €10m mark.

As a 32-year-old, Digne would offer valuable experience and a solid alternative to Nuno Mendes in Luis Enrique’s squad. The Frenchman has already agreed to return to PSG. Digne is currently involved with France’s World Cup run. He has been Les Bleus’ starter on the left defensive side since the knockout stage, where France kept three consecutive clean sheets against Sweden, Paraguay and Morocco.
Digne would leave Aston Villa as an Europa League winner. He joined the Birmingham-based club in 2022 from Everton.
