Zaragoza officially announced that Herrera, a former Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, has joined the team, signing a one-season contract.

Zaragoza Official Announcement

Real Zaragoza and Herrera have reached an agreement, and the academy player will return to his hometown, having previously signed a one-season contract with the club.

Herrera (born August 14, 1989, in Bilbao) returns to Real Zaragoza, committed to the team's rebuilding in the Spanish First Division and eager to return to professional football as soon as possible. Ander's return is undoubtedly a clear expression of belonging to the club and represents the return of a Zaragoza native at a critical moment in the club's future development.

Zaragoza's Training and Development

After taking his first steps at UD Amistad, Ander arrived at Real Zaragoza Sports City at the age of 11 and grew into one of the most promising players in the Blanquilla youth academy, until he joined the first team and made his debut on February 1, 2009, against Levante UD.

His participation in the second half of the 2008-09 season ultimately contributed significantly to the team's promotion to the First Division, and in the following two seasons, he solidified his position among the national elite.

Career at Big Clubs

In the summer of 2011, he signed with Athletic Club and, under Bielsa's coaching, became a key player for the red-and-white team. In his first season at Athletic, he participated in the Europa League and Copa del Rey finals, maintaining a high level of performance in over 100 matches in his first season with Athletic Club.

In 2014, Manchester United signed him. As a "Red Devil," he won his first club title, making nearly 200 appearances in five seasons. He also won the FA Cup, Community Shield, League Cup, and the 2016-17 Europa League with Manchester United. During this period, he contributed 20 goals and 27 assists.

Paris Saint-Germain, previously played for Athletic Club, and had experience playing for Boca Juniors.

Paris Saint-Germain was the next milestone in Herrera's career. Joining one of Europe's top clubs in recent years was undoubtedly a huge challenge for him. In three seasons in Paris, he made 95 appearances, contributing 6 goals and 6 assists, and added many honors to his resume: two Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups, two French Super Cups, and one League Cup.

After his stint at Paris Saint-Germain, he returned to Athletic Club for his second spell, ultimately winning a most special title for the Basque team: the 2024 Copa del Rey; a trophy they had longed for for 40 years.

Finally, Herrera had the opportunity to play for Boca Juniors in Argentina for two years. This experience allowed him to participate in competitions such as the Copa Libertadores and the Club World Cup.

Now, Ander, with nearly 600 professional appearances, returns to Real Zaragoza. The club is incredibly excited about the arrival of this high-caliber player and looks forward to his contributions to the upcoming Spanish Football League season.

Welcome, Ander!
