Atletico Madrid will start the new season earlier than Real Madrid and Barcelona, a request made by the club itself, not a decision by La Liga.

La Liga officially announced the schedule for the first three rounds of the new season this Tuesday. Due to the World Cup, the schedule faces some adjustments. It was previously known that some matches would be postponed due to the World Cup to allow players to get necessary rest. Therefore, the first round of La Liga matches will be spread out over seven days.

Among the three giants, Atletico Madrid will make their first appearance, playing Malaga at the Wanda Metropolitano on August 20. The second round is scheduled on August 23, with Atletico Madrid continuing to play at home against Villarreal. According to COPE reporter Javi Gomez, the specific time of this match might be postponed due to the temperature at that time. Atletico Madrid's third round match will be an away game against Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on August 29.

Unlike Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona's first matches will not be until the weekend of August 22-23, which is the second matchday of La Liga.

According to Javi Gomez, the reason Atletico Madrid is starting earlier is a request actively made by the club's sports department after negotiations, not a decision by La Liga. The coaching staff and sports management jointly made the decision to play on August 19.
