According to RMC, human rights organization FairSquare has filed a complaint against Infantino with the IOC Ethics Commission, alleging multiple violations of political neutrality rules.

FairSquare has taken formal action after its recent announcement. In a statement released on Tuesday, the human rights organization stated that it has submitted a complaint against Infantino to the IOC Ethics Commission.

The statement claims: "The complaint alleges that Infantino repeatedly violated the IOC's rules on political neutrality by openly supporting US President Donald Trump."

As an IOC member elected in January 2020, Infantino must adhere to the requirements of political neutrality in the Olympic Charter and the IOC Ethics Code. The IOC President, along with over a hundred other members, swore to abide by these principles upon joining. FairSquare warns that the IOC has the right to remove members who do not fulfill their obligations.

"Five clear violations between January 2025 and February 2026"

The organization claims that Infantino has five clear instances of violating the IOC's political neutrality rules through public statements or other explicit support for Trump. FairSquare details each of these five violations in its complaint.

The first occurred on January 20, 2025. Infantino released a video thanking Trump for inviting him to the inauguration ceremony the previous day, concluding with "We will not only make America great again, but the whole world great again." FairSquare believes this statement reflects support for Trump's political agenda.

Two weeks later, on February 4, Infantino wrote on Instagram that President Trump "undoubtedly deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his decisive actions." On the same day, Trump told reporters at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu that he would "never" receive the award. FairSquare states that this constituted personal support for Trump in a highly sensitive political dispute.

The organization also points out that on November 5, 2025, when asked about his relationship with Trump, Infantino made a "very clear political stance." He said at the time that Trump "was just implementing his previously announced plans," and added, "We should all support his approach, because I think it's not bad."

FairSquare believes that Infantino's remarks on December 5, 2025, also constitute "clear personal support for President Trump's foreign policy involving multiple countries and ongoing armed conflicts." On that day, after FIFA awarded Trump the FIFA Peace Prize at the FIFA World Cup draw ceremony, Infantino said: "You undoubtedly deserve this first FIFA Peace Prize, because of your actions and the results you have achieved in your own way. You have achieved incredible results, President Trump, and you can always count on my support."

Finally, on February 19, 2026, Infantino appeared at a "Peace Committee" convened by Trump, wearing a red hat emblazoned with "USA" and "45-47," a reference to the Republican's two terms.

"Two other serious violations during the FIFA World Cup"

FairSquare also presented "evidence of two other serious violations" in its complaint and requested an IOC investigation, the statement said. The first involved Trump's pressure to bypass FIFA's on-field disciplinary rules during the 2026 men's FIFA World Cup, a practice related to the so-called "Balogun incident." Specifically, it involved the US forward's red card being rescinded, allowing him to participate in the round of 16 match against Belgium.

The second involved Infantino promoting FIFA's 2026 men's FIFA World Cup website for fans. However, the website "also appears to be part of a data collection activity by entities associated with Trump."

This is not the first time FairSquare has filed a complaint against Infantino: the organization also filed a complaint with the FIFA Ethics Committee last December, also citing Infantino's repeated violations of the principle of neutrality enshrined in the FIFA statutes. FairSquare stated: "The secretariat of the investigatory chamber has confirmed receipt of the complaint but has not provided FairSquare with any further information." The organization also received support from the Norwegian Football Association and 50 Members of the European Parliament, who wrote to FIFA in solidarity with the complaint.
