Darlow: Man Utd is the biggest club in the world; I hope to bring healthy competition

After the official announcement of his transfer to Manchester United, goalkeeper Darlow gave his first official club interview as a Manchester United player.

Carl, welcome to Manchester United. How excited are you about this transfer?

Yes, very excited. To be honest, I'm very happy that the transfer finally went through. Yes, I'm full of expectations for the future.

I guess this is everyone's favorite question, but why did you choose Manchester United?

I think it's obvious. The status of this club, and its history and what it stands for. In my opinion, it's the biggest club in the world. So, once you hear that a club like Manchester United is interested in you, the obvious answer is yes. I'm very happy that the transfer went smoothly.

This is such an exciting time for Manchester United, especially under the leadership of Michael Carrick. How excited are you to join a team coached by him?

Yes, I look forward to integrating into the team and learning from him, and obviously understanding my expectations for the team and his football philosophy. This is something I hope to fully participate in and learn from. I also hope to have a positive impact within the team. Yes, it's great to be here.

You've had a very excellent career so far, with rich experience. Based on this, what do you think you've learned from the best goalkeeping teams? What qualities are needed to succeed in this goalkeeping team?

Yes, that's a very good question. I think it's obviously mutual encouragement and support. We all understand this role and have played this position. Sometimes it can feel lonely, and sometimes you feel like you're on top of the world. So I think mutual emotional understanding is very important, and at the same time, we need to push each other professionally to bring out the best in each other. Healthy competition is great. Yes, that's what I hope to bring.

You also have rich international experience. Who inspires you to compete at the highest level every day?

I don't know. To be honest, I think a large part of the motivation comes from within. But obviously, my family is also involved, my parents, and my newborn child, and of course my wife. So, this is obviously family-driven, but I think it's more of an inner desire to be the best version of myself and to live up to my efforts.

It's great to see your source of motivation, because today you brought your family to Carrington to witness this signing day. In this moment, these are memories you want to cherish forever, right? Does this also motivate you in your career at Manchester United?

Yes, of course. I think today was fantastic, even the weather was great. It was incredible, it was a brilliant day, and something we've always been very excited about. So we're enjoying the day, trying to relax. The kids are also happy, which is the most important thing.

Indeed. If people don't know you yet, how would you describe yourself as a player?

Yes, full commitment. I would say I always give my all for the badge. Not just in games, but in daily training, I like to think I've done my best, and I think that's a given. As a player, I hope to bring a bit of calmness to this very challenging position. Yes, I just enjoy football.

Yes, it's incredible. I just want to embrace everything this club stands for. Obviously, observing from the outside and actually being here are different.
