Lamine Yamal's £9.5million home in Barcelona was targeted by burglars hours after his victory with Spain over France in their World Cup semi-final, with police in Catalonia opening an investigation into the attempt.

Two hooded thieves were spotted on the walls of the mansion in upmarket suburb Esplugues de Llobregat, but their break-in attempt was thwarted by Yamal’s private security team who spotted the individuals just in time.
The attempted crime reportedly happened at around 4am local time on Wednesday morning, and the Criminal Investigation Division has now taken over the case using CCTV images of the property.
Yamal’s mansion was previously owned by former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and his then-partner pop star Shakira.
The 3,800 square foot house boasts indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a tennis court, and a home recording studio, with Yamal posting pictures of the lavish property on Instagram.
The Barcelona superstar joins a number of football stars who have been the victims of break-ins over the last few months, including two of his teammates.

Goalkeeper Joan Garcia was targeted earlier this year while he was away in Saudi Arabia competing in the Spanish Supercopa, with his home burgled by two individuals wearing black.
Defender Pau Cubarsi had a high-end watch taken from his residence while he was out training with his team after Christmas last year.
It has been suggested that criminals will intentionally target the homes of professional football players when they are away at tournaments.
In 2023, Jack Grealish had £1million worth of jewellery and valuables stolen from his Cheshire home, with the perpetrators not yet caught by the police.
Raheem Sterling has been the target of three separate robberies, with one forcing him to fly home from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The burglary attempt will undoubtedly cast a shadow over the 19-year-old’s triumph in Dallas on Tuesday night, where the Spanish side emerged victorious over France in a tactical masterclass.
Luis de la Fuente’s team will face the winners of Wednesday's semi-final between England and Argentina in New Jersey on Sunday.
