In a FIFA World Cup semi-final that just concluded, England lost 1-2 to Argentina, unfortunately stopping at the semi-finals. England's journey to the finals ended, with a total of 4 players not getting any playing time, two of whom were outfield players and two were substitute goalkeepers.

Out of England's 26-man squad, 22 players got playing time, and only 4 did not get any playing time: Mainoo, Chalobah, Dean Henderson, and Trafford.

Among these four, Dean Henderson and Trafford are substitute goalkeepers, so it is normal for them not to get playing time; Trevoh Chalobah was called up to replace Livramento, so his lack of playing time is also understandable; however, Mainoo had an outstanding performance for Manchester United last season, and his not getting playing time has sparked heated discussion among fans.

In addition, Ivan Toney was brought on by Tuchel in the last minute against Argentina to "fight for it", otherwise he would also be on the list of players who did not get playing time.

However, England still has a third-place play-off match to play, and in this relatively less important match, the aforementioned players may get some playing time.
