On July 15th, Argentina defeated England 2-1 in the FIFA World Cup semi-final. During the broadcast, Sutton criticized England head coach Tuchel.

Sutton stated: "Without a doubt, people must question Tuchel. Throughout the match, and in the way the game's momentum shifted, much of it came down to his in-game management. He was too conservative at a time when he should have been more aggressive. His substitutions could have been more proactive and attack-minded. Watkins and Rashford were still on the bench, so why not use them? Also, Kane was almost non-existent on the field at the time, so why didn't he substitute him? There are many questions Tuchel needs to answer."

He also said: "Tuchel's in-game management for this match was simply a coaching disaster. England finally took the lead, but then actively surrendered the initiative to Argentina. The team kept dropping back and brought on a defender. Ultimately, football is actually very simple: you have to push the formation forward. You can't expect to hold out defensively for 30 minutes against a team like Argentina. In my opinion, the responsibility lies entirely with the head coach. All the adjustments were made by him, and he chose to be conservative. So what I want to ask is: why should we still believe that Tuchel can lead this England team forward?"

Finally, Sutton concluded: "No matter what others say, I think England's draw in this tournament was quite good, but they did not have a single 90-minute match that was truly convincing. The FIFA World Cup semi-final was an excellent opportunity to advance, against an Argentina team that was not top-tier in strength. Although Argentina's performance in the last 30 minutes was not ordinary at all; on the contrary, they played very well, I think England 'helped' them. In my opinion, this was an absolute coaching disaster."
