In an interview with Egyptian TV program "On Sport," Egyptian international Hamdi Fathi stated that Egypt is currently the strongest team in the Arab world and Africa.

Hamdi Fathi said, "We are not worried about facing Senegal in the FIFA World Cup; our only concern is to qualify. Egypt coach Hassan has given us enough confidence that we fear no opponent. We have not deliberately avoided Senegal, because we are the strongest team in the Arab world and Africa; if we do meet them, we will beat them."

When asked to compare Egypt with Morocco, he said, "Morocco is building a very promising team. They finished fourth in the last FIFA World Cup and reached the quarterfinals this time, which is a great success. But now we are also capable of beating Morocco; they are afraid of us because we always know how to win against them."
