Former French international LeBoeuf believes Arsenal must consider finding a replacement for Saliba, and his compatriot Lacroix could be a suitable candidate.

Saliba, partnered with Gabriel, was a cornerstone of Arsenal's defense when they won the Premier League last season. He was expected to play a key role for France in the World Cup this summer. However, in the first half of the semi-final against Spain, he fell to the ground without contact and cried out, "My back is gone." The 25-year-old defender has been troubled by a back injury throughout the tournament and may now require surgery. According to French media reports, Saliba could miss four to five months of the new season, which would undoubtedly be a heavy blow for Arsenal, who aim to defend their title.
LeBoeuf stated: "Saliba is one of the best center-backs in the world right now, and when a player like that is out for four to five months, it's certainly a problem. Arsenal's defensive system is the foundation of Arteta's coaching, and being without him for such a long time at the start of the season will not be easy. I think they have to take action. Whether it's a permanent signing or a loan, there must be alternative options. A team contending for the title cannot go into the new season without a solution. Arsenal is currently one of the most stable top clubs, and that's their strength. But if Saliba is out, that stability will immediately be tested."
In addition to being interested in England international Ngoyo, Arteta might also consider Saliba's national teammate Lacroix. The 26-year-old defender has performed exceptionally well since joining Crystal Palace from Wolfsburg in 2024 but is reportedly seeking a new challenge. Chelsea has listed Lacroix as a key transfer target, and the latest reports indicate that Crystal Palace is demanding at least £55 million. LeBoeuf spoke highly of Lacroix: "Lacroix is a good player – I know him and what he's good at. He's French, a good defender, and experienced. But whether he reaches the level Arsenal needs to contend for the title is still a question mark. Arsenal needs a player who can hit the ground running and perform at a top level from day one, not someone who needs three months to adapt. If Lacroix can do that, why not? He understands the Premier League and adapts to the pace of the game, which is important. But the premise is that the price is right and he fits Arteta's system."
