After losing to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, Argentina midfielder Enzo apologized to fans. The Chelsea star was sent off in the final stages of the match for two unnecessary fouls, accumulating two yellow cards, becoming one of the controversial figures after the team's defeat.

In the 94th minute of the match, Enzo, who had already received a yellow card, rushed towards young Spanish defender Cubarsi in a scramble, who then fell and rolled. Referee Vincic did not hesitate to show a second yellow card, sending Enzo off.
Enzo tried to explain to the referee and prove that his action was not malicious, but the final decision remained unchanged. He also realized that his actions might affect the team, so he asked the Argentine fans for forgiveness after the match.

England striker and commentator Alan Shearer criticized Enzo's choice during the commentary: "Enzo Fernandez's behavior was too foolish. He had already received a yellow card for protesting, not for a foul. He knew that because the penalty had just happened. It's really crazy to make such a tackle again in this situation."
Shearer believes the referee's decision was completely correct: "He can protest all he wants, but it was the correct call. He left the referee with only one option."
