Former Manchester City teammates Otamendi and Rodri clashed after the final whistle of the FIFA World Cup final.

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 to win the title with Ferran Torres' winning goal in extra time.

The entire 120-minute match was full of tension, and Argentina player Enzo Fernandez was sent off in stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card for a tackle on Cubarsi. After the final whistle, Argentina suffered another blow when Paredes was shown a straight red card for allegedly punching a Spanish player.

Scaloni's Argentina team has been criticized for their aggressive playing style throughout the tournament. They committed 27 fouls against Spain.

Emotions completely spiraled out of control after extra time, with Otamendi and Rodri filmed talking on the field, and the conversation quickly escalated into a heated argument, targeting earlier comments made by Rodri and another former Manchester City teammate Laporte.

Otamendi appeared very agitated, saying: "Cut the crap, you've been crying all week. All week, you and Laporte, both of you crying your eyes out."

"You can't do that, mate, constantly crying to the referee."

Rodri replied: "I respect you.

" Otamendi immediately retorted: "Then you shouldn't have said stupid things before, got it?"

Rodri was puzzled: "What did I say?"

Otamendi asked back: "Laporte? Didn't you see what he said this week?"

Otamendi's words stemmed from Laporte being asked before the match if Spain was worried about Argentina's overly rough playing style. The defender implied that the tournament referees had repeatedly ignored Argentina's fouls and tackles in previous matches.

He told Marca: "I'm not worried at all about aggressive play within the confines of football. If the actions are within the rules and the referee does their job, then I have no problem. But it's true that we've seen many missed calls in previous games, and many actions weren't whistled."

"Especially Argentina, this team has been constantly sending provocative signals. This shouldn't be allowed in a football match, especially in such a top-level competition, because it disrupts the opponent's rhythm. It's the referee's job to control this kind of behavior, and if one or two players do it, the game will get out of control."
